Amazin LeThi is hosting a series of Outsports Instagram Live conversations for AAPI Heritage Month.
For Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Outsports is presenting a series of Instagram Live conversations, hosted by athlete and advocate Amazin LeThi.
The first conversation in the series will take place Thursday, May 6, at 2 p.m. ET, when professional ice hockey player Jon Lee-Olsen joins LeThi.
Lee-Olsen is one of the very few professional men’s ice hockey players to come out publicly as gay anywhere in the world, having shared his story in 2019. He was born and raised in Denmark, where he now plays professionally.
LeThi was born in Vietnam and raised in Australia, where she she says she was bullied for her race and sexual orientation. She became a competitive bodybuilder at age 6 and now advocates on behalf of various inclusion efforts in, and outside of, sports.
The first 10 days of May were designated Pacific/Asian American Heritage Week when President Jimmy Carter signed the proclamation bill. It was extended to the entire month of May in 1990 with the signature of President George H. W. Bush.
